The Royal Enfield Classic 350 has been our long-term fleet bike for the past six months, and we have clocked over 10,000 km across city commutes, weekend highway runs, and one Rajasthan road trip. The new J-series engine has transformed the Classic from a charming-but-flawed retro bike into a genuinely capable everyday motorcycle.
The refinement levels are in a completely different league compared to the old UCE engine. The 20.2 bhp and 27 Nm of torque are adequate for relaxed cruising at 80-90 kmph, and the engine remains vibration-free up to about 100 kmph. Beyond that, some buzz does creep in through the footpegs and handlebars. Fuel economy has averaged 34 kmpl in our mixed riding, which is respectable for a 195 kg motorcycle.
The riding position is upright and comfortable, making it perfect for long stints. The brakes, however, remain an area of concern -- the front disc lacks initial bite, and the rear drum brake needs a heavy push. The Tripper navigation pod is a genuinely useful addition for navigation-heavy rides. After 10,000 km, we have needed only routine servicing -- oil changes and chain adjustments -- with no mechanical issues to report. The Classic 350 has matured into a well-rounded motorcycle that justifies its Rs 1.93 lakh starting price.
